Water Skiing Equipment
Photo by chemisti Water skiing is a great summer sport. Of course, it’s contingent on having the right kind of Water Skiing Equipment and knowing the basic rules of communication. If you’re outfitted with the proper equipment for water skiing you can look forward to skiing for fun as well as improving on you current skills. Following are some tips you can follow so you can make the most out of any skiing experience.
(1) Wear your Life Vest
Above anything else, make sure you always wear your life vest as this is a must-have piece of water skiing equipment. Without a flotation device you’re “sunk” if you’re faced with falling in the water as will more than likely come to pass as you Water Ski. Even if you’re an excellent swimmer, a life preserver is important to your overall well-being while skiing. One of the more well-known brands, Bart’s, produces life preservers that are well-suited for the water skier. The life jacket is designed with a flex-fit panel so you can secure it for maximum comfort and safety.
(2) Keep your Gloves on
Don’t even think about putting on your skis without also putting on your gloves. Equipment for water skiing like gloves keeps the skier’s hands dry and therefore protected from losing the grip of the handle on the tow rope. Gloves come in a variety of styles but make sure you have ones that are of course waterproof and have insulation and padding for extra protection. Double wrist straps and fingers that are pre-curved are helpful in assisting a water skier get the kind of dexterity he or she needs to properly grip the handle of the rope and avoid falling.
(3) Check your Water Skiing Equipment Supplies
Before you even enter the arena and test out your skis, make sure that everything is in good working order. The flotation device should be fitting properly and be in quality condition. Ski binders should be adjusted comfortably and be secured. Ensure that the water is free from obstructions and is deep enough. Once these determinations are made, you’ll be far better able to enjoy your time spent in the water.
(4) Check the Weather Conditions
Also, before you set off, make sure good weather will prevail while you’re skiing. Be aware of the wind speed which can sometimes result in unanticipated rough conditions on the water. Make certain the surrounding climate is in sync with your planned activity.
(5) Learn to Communicate
Naturally, you can’t make full use of any water skiing equipment supplies if you don’t learn how to communicate while skiing. When starting out, the skier yells, “In gear!” to indicate to the operator of the boat to slacken the tow rope. Thereafter, the skier shouts, “Hit it!” which, translated, means “all systems are go for skiing to begin!” However, with the motor loudly purring the skier must resort to other forms of communication. If he gives the “thumbs up” he is indicating that the driver of the boat should go faster. By indicating “thumbs down” he requires that the boat operator slow down.
Keeping the above tips in mind as you water ski will greatly help you make the most of the water skiing equipment supplies you invest in and make the sport a worthwhile experience.
