Crowdy Bay National Park is located in New South Wales, and quite near to Port Macquarie. This area gets quite a few visitors, in part because of the close proximity to the park. Crowdy Bay is a good sized park of around 8022 hectares, and includes some of almost every type of scenery and landscape that Mother Nature has supplied to the earth. A volcanic crater, better known as Diamond Head, is one of the most noticeable landscape features. Also, the restored writing hut of Australian author Kylie Tennant is nestled at the base of Diamond Head. This history behind this hut is fascinating, and the structure is considered to be a cultural attraction of some importance.

Nature lovers, get ready! At Crowdy Bay National Park, you’ll be able to appreciate a wide range of animals, including the koala, wallabies, pygmy possum, grey kangaroo, and the rufous betong. Several varieties of snakes, lizards, and tortoises also live in the park. You’ll find many beautiful wild flowers as well as scattered clumps of forest that include melaleuca, turpentine, rosewood and black wattle trees.

Over 100 different varieties of birds call Crowdy Bay National Park home, including the rare black cockatoo. It is not unusual to see an eagle, falcon, or harrier flying overhead. The heathland all over the park attracts bird varieties whose diet is nectar, and you’ll also see birds who are just as happy on land as in the air, such as the quail.

What can you do at Crowdy Bay National Park besides enjoy all of the lovely flora and fauna? Visitors are often surprised to learn that there are so many activities waiting for them here. In the area around Diamond Head, you can participate in many water sports, including swimming, snorkelling, and Surfing. Fishing is also very popular, and for the photography maven, there are practically unlimited chances for that perfect shot.

A walking track nearby called the Diamond Head Loop Track is available for those visitors who may wish to do some power walking. You will be able to see quite a lot of the different types of forests in the park, such as the heathland, the eucalyptus forest, the wet sclerophyll forest, and the casuarina forest. You’ll also have the pleasure of seeing some gorgeous scenery.

Also at Diamond Head is an area known as Kylie’s Beach, named for the Kylie Tennant mentioned above. There is also a camping area known as Kylie’s Beach Camping Area, and the hut that once belonged to Ms. Tennant can be seen as you follow a short, looped walking path from this area, through the forest, and back around to the beach. During your walk, take the time to admire the rosewood, oak, cheesetree, and black wattle trees that line the path.

Other camping areas close by include Indian Head, and the main Diamond Head camping area. Most of the amenities that one would expect from a nice camping area are in place, except that there is no drinking water anywhere inside the park. Visitors should plan to bring their own supply.

Crowdy Bay National Park is a lovely spot to enjoy during your Port Macquarie holiday.
